Fun Day 2013!

Student Senate worked hard to organize and direct Fun Day 2013.  Each class was in charge of at least one activity in order to raise money for the Student Senate.  The Student Senate funds community projects through the school year along with contributing funds to SkillsUSA members to cover expenses during competition.

Volunteers from TTC McKenzie

Tennessee Technology Center @ McKenzie students volunteered to assist the McKenzie United Neighbors in distributing groceries to the Carroll County area.  The food is purchased from the Second Harvest Food Bank and then delivered to the distribution site.  The distribution sites are usually at a church in the McKenzie area.

Volunteers work 30-45 minutes to unload the Second Harvest Food Bank semi-truck.  They have around 50 volunteers, including about 20 from the Tennessee Technology Center @ McKenzie.  These volunteers help to unload, sort and then distribute the items to members of the community.

In order to be eligible for the opportunity to “shop” Carroll County residents must go through an application process to determine their need.  Qualified shoppers are scheduled appointments throughout the day.

Virginia Cross, Executive Director of the McKenzie United Neighbors stated they had about 255 people to qualify through the application process that have been given appointments.  Additionally, she has instructed about 50 more Carroll County residents to wait at the end of the line incase appointments do not show.  Food is distributed until it is all gone.
