TN College of Applied Technology at McKenzie had 39 students
volunteer to help with the Mobile Food Pantry in Greenfield on September 30th.
The event was sponsored by Second
Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee and Sacks Thrift Avenue/Sacks Food
Pantry. 16 of the 39 students were TNPromise students
and were able to earn 4 of the 8 community service hours needed to maintain
their TNPromise scholarship.
Once there, the students were split into two groups. Group 1 helped to unload the truck and
organize the food items, while Group 2 assisted in packing the food and
cleaning up afterwards.
Second Harvest has a network of over 450 Partner Agencies
working together to feed hungry men, women and children throughout our
46-county service area. Second Harvest collects, sorts and distributes food and
personal care products to over 450 partner agencies throughout 46 Middle and
West Tennessee counties.
The organizers and the community were grateful to the
students for all their help and were thankful to TCAT-McKenzie for allowing the
students to take time out from their classes to volunteer.
