TCAT McKenzie Students Win National Skills USA Award

Justin Page, Jason Mercer and John Billingsby

TCAT MCKENZIE STUDENTS WIN NATIONAL AWARD

Three students from Tennessee College of Applied Technology in McKenzie brought home the bronze medal in the National SkillsUSA Competition held in Louisville, Kentucky.  In order to compete at the national level, these students had to win gold in the state competition.

TCAT-McKenzie HVAC students competed in the Community Service competition of National SkillsUSA. The community service competition evaluates local chapter activities that benefit the community. The chapter presents its best community service project for the year.  Contestants are evaluated on a notebook which reports their chapter’s community service project and on a live presentation, which is given to a panel of three judges.

Winners of the bronze medal are John Billingsby of Dresden, TN, Jason Mercer of Martin, TN and Steven Justin Page of Paris, TN.

SkillsUSA is a national organization serving teachers, high school, and college students who are preparing for careers in technical, skilled and service occupations, including health occupations.  SkillsUSA programs include local, state and national competitions in which students demonstrate occupational and leadership skills.  At the annual national-level Skills USA Championships, over 5,000 students competed in 87 occupational and leadership skill areas.

TCAT-McKenzie is proud of our national winners and of all our students who have competed at the State and National level this year.
